Good to Know
- Never bigger. If an image is already well compressed, the original is kept instead of a larger copy.
- Metadata removed. EXIF data such as GPS location and camera details is not copied to the compressed file.
- Formats kept. JPG stays JPG and PNG stays PNG unless you choose another format. HEIC photos are saved as JPG.
- Biggest savings. Phone photos shrink the most when you also limit the longest side to 1920 or 2560 pixels.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I compress an image to a specific size like 100 KB?
Choose Target file size, enter 100 and add your image. The tool finds the best quality that fits under 100 KB. If a large photo cannot get that small at good quality, its width and height are reduced a little at a time until it fits.
Does compressing reduce image quality?
A little, but at the default setting of 80 most people cannot see the difference. Use Compare to check the result against the original before you download.
How does PNG compression work?
PNG is a lossless format, so the only way to make it much smaller is to use fewer colours. The tool reduces the image to a palette of up to 256 colours, which keeps transparency and usually cuts the file size by 50 to 80 percent. Set quality to 100 to keep every colour.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Your browser does all the work on your device. The images are never sent anywhere.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 images, each up to 50 MB. When they are done, download them one by one or all together as a ZIP file.
Why is my compressed image the same size as the original?
Some images are already well compressed. When the new file would be bigger, the tool keeps the original. Try a lower quality, WebP output, or a smaller maximum width.
Is it free?
